Coinciding with the Christmas celebration, troops of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) assisted in painting, repairing the water tank and laying pipelines at St. Mary’s Church in Avissawella, responding to a request from Reverend Father Tiran Perera. The renovation work was carried out from 27 November 2025 to 18 December 2025.
The renovated building was vested in the church authority on 18 December 2025 under the guidance of Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the SLAVF.
On behalf of the Catholic community, Reverend Father Tiran Perera expressed gratitude to the SLAVF for their assistance. Senior officers, officers, other ranks and a large number of devotees participated in the event.
