Major General M.T.I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces Regiment, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 03 December 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years.
Brief profile of the retiring senior officer:
Major General M.T.I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet for Intake 34 on 14 July 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Gemunu Watch on 06 June 1992. Subsequently, he was attached to the Special Forces on 20 June 1992. After steadily rising through the ranks during his service, he was promoted to Major General on 19 August 2023. He will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 12 December 2025 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was holding the appointments of Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces Regiment.
Throughout his illustrious career, Major General M.T.I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc held key appointments including Group Commander of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Intelligence Officer of the 1st Regiment Special Forces, Second-in-Command of the ‘C’ Squadron - 1st Regiment Special Forces, Officer Commanding of the ‘C’ Squadron - 1st Regiment Special Forces, Officer Instructor of the Officer Cadet Wing - Sri Lanka Military Academy, Staff Officer 2 (Military Training) of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Second-in-Command of the 2nd Regiment Special Forces, Brigade Major of Headquarters - Special Forces Brigade, Chief Instructor of the Special Forces Training School and Commanding Officer of the 4th Regiment Special Forces.
He also performed duties as Staff Officer of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Head of the Training Team of the Training Wing - Sri Lanka Military Academy, Staff Officer 1 (Grade 2/3 Cell) of the Military Secretary’s Branch, Staff Officer 1 (Investigation Cell) of the Military Secretary’s Branch, Commandant of the Special Forces Training School, Deputy Centre Commandant of the Regimental Centre Special Forces, Commander of the 144 Infantry Brigade, Commander of the Special Forces Brigade, Director of the Directorate of Plans, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, General Officer Commanding of the 54 Infantry Division, General Officer Commanding of the 53 Infantry Division, Colonel Commandant of the Military Intelligence Corps, Commander of 1 Corps, Master General Ordnance of the Army Headquarters, and Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces Regiment.
In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service to the Sri Lanka Army, he was awarded with the Weera Wickrama Vibushanaya (WWV), Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP), Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) awarded three times and Utthama Seva Padakkama (USP).
The senior officer successfully completed local courses such as the Special Forces Basic Course, Basic Parachute Training Course, Battalion Support Weapons Officers’ Course, Unit Administration Course, Computer Course and Army Command and Staff Course.
He also attended overseas courses including the Commando Course – India, Officers Physical Training Course – India, Young Officers’ Tactical Course – Pakistan, Junior Command Course – India, Jungle Operations Course – Malaysia, United Nations Training of Trainer for Military Staff Officers Course – China, United Nations Staff Officers Course – Australia and National Security Course – South Korea.
He has completed a Diploma Course in Diplomacy and World Affairs at the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute, Sri Lanka.
