Military Funeral Held for Late Brigadier W.V.S. Botejue (Retd) RWP RSP psc

The military funeral of the late Brigadier W.V.S. Botejue (Retd) RWP RSP psc of the Gemunu Watch was held at the General Cemetery, Borella, on 27 November 2025.

In accordance with military traditions, troops received the remains and paid tribute near the cemetery entrance before placing the coffin on a gun carriage draped with the National Flag.

As the funeral procession reached the main entrance of the cemetery, a representative group of senior officers formally received the coffin and escorted it towards the crematorium, accompanied by family members and officers.

The formal Special Part I Order, issued by the Adjutant General of the Sri Lanka Army, was then read out to the mourners. In keeping with military traditions, troops saluted the deceased and presented a symbolic gun salute, the highest honour accorded to a military officer upon his demise.

Following the last post bugle call, signifying that the great soldier had gone to his final rest, the remains were taken to the crematorium.

Afterwards, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army presented the bereaved family with the decorations and medals earned by the late Brigadier W.V.S. Botejue (Retd) RWP RSP psc during his distinguished military career, in keeping with tradition.

Major General Y.A.B.M. Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Directors, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Family members and Mourners were present to pay their final respects to the late senior officer.
