Pakistan Army Rescue Team Honoured for Cyclone Relief Efforts in Sri Lanka

A 47-member Pakistan Army Rescue and Relief contingent, led by Major Muhammad Abdul Mannan, was formally appreciated by the Sri Lanka Army for its exemplary service during Cyclone Ditwah relief operations.

The team arrived in Sri Lanka on 03 December 2025, along with four trained sniffer dogs and specialised equipment, was deployed at the 111 Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Doluwa. From 06 to 13 December, they conducted intensive search and rescue missions in Walikanda and Mawathura areas, operating under challenging conditions along with Sri Lankan troops to provide urgent humanitarian support.

The Sri Lanka Army highlighted the contingent’s professionalism, rapid deployment and dedication, noting their role in enhancing disaster response capabilities and delivering vital relief to affected communities. Their efforts also reflected the strong friendship and cooperation between the Sri Lanka and Pakistan Armies.

Under the direction of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, Major General N.A.M.P. Nagahawaththe RSP, Director General of Asset Management, presented an appreciation letter to the Pakistan team leader during a formal ceremony. Moreover, souvenirs were exchanged between the two Armies.
