Commander of the Army Inspects Ongoing Nation Building Activities Assists by the Army Troops in Security Forces (East) area

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, visited Security Forces (East) area on 13 and 14 December 2025 to inspect ongoing nation building activities being carried out with the assistance of Army troops.

Upon his arrival, the Commander of the Army was warmly received by Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East).

Subsequently, the Army Chief received a briefing at the operations room of the 22 Infantry Division from the Commander, Security Forces (East), together with the General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, focusing on current operational and development related commitments in the area.

During the visit, the Army Chief proceeded to the Neelapola area, where troops from the 5th Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment, 9th Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 2(V) Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment, totalling approximately 110 personnel, are engaged in road construction work as part of the Army’s assistance in nation building initiatives. The Commander of the Army also inspected the construction of the Polonnaruwa–Batticaloa railway track at the Gallella area, which is being carried out with the assistance of Army troops in collaboration with the Railway Department.

While observing the progress of the projects, the Army Chief instructed the troops to carry out their duties with the highest standards of professionalism and dedication. He commended their commitment and appreciated the valuable contribution made by the troops towards national development and community upliftment.
