Commander of the Army Commends Notable Service of Retiring Chief of Staff

Major General D.K.S.K. Dolage USP nps psc, the outgoing Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 30 March 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 36 years.

Brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer:

Major General D.K.S.K. Dolage USP nps psc enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Intake 33 on 09 January 1990. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 15 June 1991. Having been steadily elevated through the ranks during his service, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 18 May 2023.

The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 03 April 2026 on reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he holds the appointments of Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer has held numerous key appointments. He has served as Troop Commander of 6 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Adjutant and Officer Commanding of 8 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, General Staff Officer 2 (Military Training) at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, General Staff Officer 2 (Operations and Training) at Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, General Staff Officer 2 (Overseas Training) at the Directorate of Training at Army Headquarters, Senior Staff Officer (Personnel) at the Military Force Headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), General Staff Officer 1 (Operations and Training) at Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, Commanding Officer of 12 Field Engineer Regiment (Reinforcement) of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Commanding Officer of 1 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Directing Staff at the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Officiating Colonel (Commander’s Secretariat) at the Commander’s Secretariat of Army Headquarters, Colonel (General Staff) at the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Training Command, Officiating Colonel (Strategic and Doctrine) at the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Training Command and Chief Instructor at the Officer Career Development Centre.

In addition, he has served as Deputy Commandant (Overlooking) of the Officer Career Development Centre, Commander of 571 Infantry Brigade, Director and Director General of Training at Army Headquarters, General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division, General Officer Commanding of Engineer Division, Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, Commander of Security Forces Central, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.

Moreover, he has performed special policy planning assignments as a Member of the Board appointed by the Ministry of Defence to revise the 'National Security and National Defence Policies 2018–2019', Brigadier (Planning) at the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak in 2020, Member of the Board for the formulation of ‘Sri Lanka Army Way Forward 2019–2020 and 2020–2025', Chairman of the Board appointed by the Office of Chief of Defence Staff for 'Tri-Services Defence Review 2024–2030', President of the Board appointed for ‘Land Force Defence Review 2024–2030' and Head of the Steering Committee for the operationalisation of ‘Land Force Defence Review 2024–2030'.

In recognition of his dedicated and exemplary service, he was awarded the Utthama Seva Padakkama (USP).

The Senior Officer has successfully completed several professional military courses, including the Field Engineers Class 1 Course, Basic Intelligence Course, Junior Leadership and Management Course, Battalion Support Weapon Officers Course, Infantry Young Officers Course, Unit Accounts Officers Course, Computer Science Course, Army Command and Staff Course, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Course, Defence Attaché Orientation Course, Basic Fire and Rescue Training Course and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Fire Response (CBRN) Course.

He has also attended several overseas courses, including the Young Officers Engineer Course in Pakistan, the Regimental Signal Officers Course in India, the Combined Officers Bomb Disposal Course in India and the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College Course in Malaysia.

In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer has obtained a Master of Defence Studies from the University of Kelaniya, a Diploma in Strategic and Defence Studies from the University of Malaya in Malaysia and a Master of Arts in Security Studies (Civil-Military Relations) from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, United States of America.
