Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), undertook an official visit to the 12th (Volunteer) Engineer Services Regiment at Kaburupitiya and the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion, the Gemunu Watch, in Matara on 06 March 2026.
The visit, aimed at reviewing the battalion’s operational and administrative performances.
Upon arrival at the respective battalions, troops warmly welcomed the Commandant of SLAVF with a Guard Turnout and a Drive-Past salute. Subsequently, the Commanding Officers of the 12th (Volunteer) Engineer Services Regiment and the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion, the Gemunu Watch, briefed the Commandant of SLAVF on the ongoing operational activities and outlook on future plans.
Delivering the troops’ address, the Commandant of SLAVF emphasised the importance of self-awareness as a fundamental element of a soldier’s professional excellence. He encouraged all ranks to clearly understand their identity, mission, purpose and specific objectives to achieve optimal performance in both military duties and civil engagements.
Before the culmination of the visit, the Commandant of SLAVF planted a sapling on the premises of the 12 (Volunteer) Engineer Services Regiment and entered complimentary remarks in the Visitors’ Books of the respective battalions.
The Principal Staff Officer of the SLAVF and Senior Officers participated in the visits.
