Sri Lanka Army weightlifter, Sergeant Y.D.I. Kumara, brought glory to the nation by winning the bronze medal in the men’s 60kg weight category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, held in India on 26 August 2025.
The championship featured intense competition across junior, youth and senior categories. Competing in the senior men’s 60kg event, Sergeant Y.D.I. Kumara showcased exceptional strength and determination, lifting 111kg in the snatch and 138kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a total of 249kg to secure the bronze medal.
