Major General P.N. Wickramasinghe was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 07 May 2026, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 33 years.
Major General P.N. Wickramasinghe enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Intake PMA 05 on 24 July 1992. Upon successful completion of military training at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) and the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on 15 April 1993. During his service, he was promoted through the ranks and was elevated to the rank of Major General on 31 October 2025. The Senior Officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 13 May 2026 on reaching 55 years of age.
Throughout his illustrious military career, the Senior Officer has held numerous key appointments including Platoon Commander, 7th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Platoon Commander, 10th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Officer Commanding, 10th Battalion the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Adjutant, General Amnesty Battalion (Formerly designated as Wanni Watch), Aide-De-Camp to the then Commander of the Army Lieutenant General G.S.C. Fonseka RWP RSP VSV USP rcds psc and Staff Officer 1 (Logistics), Regimental Centre, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.
The Senior Officer was critically injured on 25 April 2006 while engaged in duties at the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters as a result of a terrorist suicide bomb attack. He continued to serve the country with unflinching passion and commitment despite the major obstacles that followed, continuously demonstrating his devotion to duty throughout his active military service.
The Senior Officer has successfully completed several local and overseas courses including the Platoon Commander Tactics Course, Battalion Support Weapons Course, Basic Intelligence Course and Operational Staff Duties Course for Middle-Grade Officers.
His overseas training includes the Young Officers’ Course in India and Anti-Armour Course for the Officers in Pakistan.
In addition to his military qualifications, the Senior Officer has obtained a British English High Proficiency Certificate Course at Lions Club International in Colombo, Sri Lanka Computer Driving Licence (National Trade Certificate in Computer Applications) issued by the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority and General Information Technology Skills Course at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
