Disaster Relief Operations

Troops of the 24 Infantry Division contributed to relief efforts following adverse weather conditions reported on 26 November 2025. Accordingly, a team from the 18 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under the 241 Infantry Brigade, was deployed to clear a tree that had collapsed onto a house in Samanthurai, Kallarichchel area due to heavy rainfall.


The Sri Lanka Army engaged in extensive search and rescue operations following the recent adverse weather condition that affected many parts of the country. At present, troops are also involved in the nation building process, attending to numerous locations that sustained damage due to the severe weather. Their ongoing efforts are focused on restoring essential services, supporting affected communities and helping stabilise day-to-day life in the impacted areas.


The historic Elahera Anicut was officially reopened on 30 December 2025 following the completion of major restoration work carried out jointly by the Sri Lanka Army, the Mahaweli Authority and the Department of Irrigation. The reconstruction was undertaken after the ancient structure sustained extensive damage due to recent flood situation in the country.
