A newly constructed accommodation building for Other Ranks at the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) was declared open on 29 November 2024 by Major General W.M.S.C.K Wanasinghe RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of the 21 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment MIR.

The initiative addresses a longstanding need for improved facilities in the Regiment. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the occasion.
