Officers' Training Day Conducted At RHQ VIR

Under the patronage of the General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment(VIR), Major General K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP, the Officers’ Training Day for the fourth quarter of the year 2024 was successfully held at the Regimental Centre, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 25 October 2024.

Following the program, the day's proceedings commenced with a morning physical training session at the Regimental Playground followed by planting of 200 coconut trees within the camp premises with the participation of all the Senior Officers and Officers. The day’s first lecture was conducted on a timely and a critical issue regarding the topic of "Workplace - based Drug Prevention" by Mrs. Inusha Nilmini Hettiarachchige. Next, an interactive and informative lecture on "Human Rights Law Enforcement and Ethics" was conducted by Head Quarter Chief Inspector of Kurunegala Police, CI Channaka Kobbewala.

The interactive panel discussion headed by all Grade 1 Staff Officers of Regimental Centre gave an opportunity for all Officers to clarify their doubts regarding Regimental matters and allowed them to present their suggestions and proposals for the betterment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment in different angles. To further inspire and entertain, the film "Sam Bahadur" depicting the life of India's first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw was screened at the Archers’ Cinema. Breaking the monotony of the day, participants got the opportunity to play their preferred sports during the evening recreational session.

In line with the Officers’ Training Day, another successful Diners Club session was held at “The Salute” Multifunctional Hall, Boyagane with the participation of Officers serving in various military establishments including Officers of VIR Battalions. As the guest speaker of the night, Colonel M.B.B.N Herath RSP conducted an informative and thought - provoking lecture on the topic “Spirit of Leadership through third lense”. Officers took the opportunity to share their views with the audience and had an interactive session with the guest speaker. The event culminated with a glamorous showcase of cultural and musical events where the Officers got an opportunity to witness diverse talents, celebrating creativity and cultural heritage in a vibrant atmosphere.

The Centre Commandant of VIR including a few Regimental Council Members, Senior Officers and several other Officers also participated in this event.
