Major General M.T.I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, ceremonially assumed the office as the 6th Commander of 1 Corps on 16 October 2024, amidst the military formalities at the Headquarters, 1 Corps at Kilinochchi.

The day’s proceedings commenced according the Guard Turnout to new Commander, 1 Corps at the main entrance of Headquarters, 1 Corps.

Subsequently, he was warmly welcomed by the Brigadier General Staff 1 Corps, Brigadier G.P.P Kulatilaka ndc and accompanied to the premises where troops of 1st Battalion of the Gemunu Watch accorded him with the Guard of Honour.

Thereafter, amid religious rites and rituals, followed by the ‘Seth Pirith’, Major General M.T.I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc, assumed his new office placing the signature symbolically in an official document at the auspicious minute.

Later, the Commander, 1 Corps posed for group photographs with the General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of Headquarters, 1 Corps before planting a sapling at the Headquarters premises.

Further, Commander,1 Corps educated his Officers and Other Ranks in respect of duties and responsibilities during the troops address.

Before the culmination of the event, the Commander, 1 Corps attended an All-rank tea at the Corporals’ Club, Headquarters, 1 Corps.
