Island-wide Tree Planting Initiative Launched to Celebrate Army’s 75th Anniversary

To mark the Sri Lanka Army’s 75th Anniversary, an island-wide tree planting programme was launched under the guidance of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army. The initiative, under the supervision of the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock, commenced on 10 October 2024 with the Army Chief planting a “Red Sandalwood” sapling at Army Headquarters.

Parallel events took place at the Sri Jayewardenepura Agriculture Project, with the participation of senior Army officers and dignitaries. Across the country, 37,635 saplings were planted in all security forces, divisions, battalions, and units. Additionally, the Directorate planted 2,500 saplings in 25 selected schools, and Army farms including planting of 15,000 cinnamon saplings and 1,500 TEJC mango saplings at various locations.
