Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, the 5th Commander of 1 Corps relinquished his duties upon his retirement on 05 October 2024 during a formal military ceremony held at the Headquarters, 1 Corps, Kilinochchi.

The ceremony commenced with a Guard Turnout at the entrance, followed by a Guard of Honour presented by the troops of the 1st Battalion, the Gemunu Watch.

Then, he delivered the handing-over documents officially at the office premises. Thereafter, the Outgoing Commander posed for group photographs.

Subsequently, he addressed the troops of 1 Corps and paid the gratitude to all for the assistance what they have extended during his tenure and urged them to continue their commitment in same spirit for the benefit and the reputation of the organization.

Before relinquishing the office, formally, he attended for All Ranks tea at the Non Commisioned Officer's Club. At the culmination of the event a farewell dinner was held for outgoing Commander by all Officers in 1 Corps along with a token of appreciation.
