New VIR Colonel of the Regiment Takes Office

Major General K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP assumed duties as the 23rd Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) at the Regimental Centre VIR on 18 September 2024.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant at the main entrance and was accorded a Guard Turnout. As a mark of respect, the Senior Officer laid wreaths at both the fallen War Heroes' monument and the PWV recipients' monument, paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in safeguarding the motherland. Following this, a Guard of Honour was presented to him.
Subsequently, new Colonel of the Regiment officially assumed his duties as the new Colonel of the Regiment by signing an official document amidst the chanting of pirith, symbolising the acceptance of his responsibilities. As part of the tradition, he planted a sapling at the Regimental Centre and posed for group photographs.
The day’s events concluded with Senior Officer addressing the troops followed by an all Ranks tea at "The Salute" multifunctional hall.
