The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) hosted a farewell ceremony on 15 September 2024 at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala, to honour Major General S.R.B. Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, the retiring 64th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and 22nd Colonel of the Regiment of VIR.

Upon his arrival, the Senior Officer was warmly welcomed in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour. He then saluted the memory of fallen War Heroes at the War Heroes Monument.

During the ceremony, the Colonel of the Regiment posed for a group photograph with the troops and addressed all Ranks. He expressed his profound gratitude to the former Colonels of the Regiment and to all VIR members. Following this, he joined the all Ranks tea, symbolically relinquishing his duties by signing the official handing over documents.

The day concluded with a formal farewell dinner at "The Salute" multifunctional hall, attended by Senior Officers and their spouses. The event culminated in the presentation of mementos to the retiring Senior Officer and his spouse, Mrs. Thushara Yatiwawala Aluvihare, in recognition of their significant contributions to the Regiment.
