The 32nd commemoration of Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the founding father of the Gajaba Regiment (GR), was held on 8 August 2024. The ceremony was conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of the GR and Sri Lanka National Guard.

The commemoration included a religious ceremony at the Ruwanweli Maha Saya to invoke blessings for the late Major General. In addition, a special programme was organised at a children’s home in Saliyapura, where the children and staff enjoyed a special meal.

The day concluded with a final tribute at the Gajaba Regimental Centre, with the participation of Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Commander of the 59 Infantry Division, along with Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the GR.
