Female Badminton Players in UNIFIL Secures Silver Trophy & Medals

Female badminton players of the Sri Lankan Force Protection Company (SLFPC) of the Force Headquarters Support Unit (FHQSU) competing in the Welfare & Recreation Committee of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)-organized Badminton tournament during 05 - 09 June at the Rub Hall of UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, Lebanon won the second place in Open Women’s Double event beating their rivals from Indonesia.

During the tournament, Lady officer, Major D.S.A Dolawaththa and woman soldier, Corporal J.W.M.W.U Bandara serving the 14th Force Protection Company (FPC) of the Sri Lanka Army in the UNIFIL secured the 2nd place and claimed the certificate, medal and the silver trophy.

Male and female Army players competed in Men’s Single, Men’s Double, Women’s Single and Women’s Double categories against a number of players from Indonesia, India, Malaysia, China, Nepal, France, Ghana, Zambia and Poland during the tournament.

The Force Headquarters Support Unit (FHQSU) and the Welfare & Recreation Committee of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) jointly organized the open badminton tournament for all foreign troops serving the UNIFIL.

Colonel Ezra Nathanael, Commander Force Headquarters Support Unit (FHQSU) in Lebanon graced the final occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the trophies, medals and certificates to all the winners.
