61 Infantry Division Troops Provide Relief to Affected Matara Flood Victims

9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 2 (V) Gemunu Watch (GW) of the 613 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - West after heavy rains and floods affected Matara district since 2 October have been engaged in evacuation, relief and relocation activities hand in hand with Divisional Secretariats, Disaster Management Centre, Police and Navy personnel.
Thihagoda and Malimbada areas under the Divisional Secretariats were the worst affected as rains worsened and flood levels increased forcing people to leave their homes and residences.
The Commander, Security Forces - West in collaboration with the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division closely supervised these humanitarian relief operations. The close supervision of the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade and active involvement of 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 2 (V) Gemunu Watch troops provided maximum possible support to the flood victims.
Troops evacuated civilians, removed fallen trees and debris while providing security to household belongings, provided immediate relief and supported repair of the damaged properties and roofs.
The prompt action of the troops helped ease the impact of the damages caused by ravaging waters and floods.
