Army Cyclists Dominate Defence Services Cycling Championship 2023

Army cyclists' team clinched the overall championship in the Defence Services Cycling Championship 2023, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy in adjoining areas of the Air Force Base in Katunayake on Sunday (Jan 08).

During the 145 km men’s event, Army cyclists grabbed first and second places to claim the overall championship. Similarly, Army women cyclists achieved second, fifth, and eighth places during the 65 km long women’s event.

Colonel Mahesh Gunasekara, Vice President, Sri Lanka Army Cycling Committee and Special trainers of the Army conducted training for the cyclists under the guidance of Major General Ranjan Jayasekara, the recently-appointed Chairman of the Army Cycling Committee.

Individual performances are as follows:

Men’s 145 km Event

1st Place - Corporal M.A.D Madonsa - 2 (V) SLEME

2nd Place - Lance Corporal S.M.N.P Thisera - 2 (V) SLEME

Women’s 65 km Event

2nd Place - Lance Corporal W.R.M Fernando - 5 (V) SLAWC

5th Place - Lance Corporal W.A.A Sandamini - 4 (V) SLAWC
