Army Contributes to Island Wide Christmas

To coincide with the dawn of Christmas, 572 Infantry Brigade troops of the 57 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu offered a delicious lunch to 25 inmates at Dharmapuram ‘Namawasi’ Elders' home on Christmas day (25 December).
6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 17 Sri Lanka National Guard of the 572 Infantry Brigade made arrangements to this effect. Colonel Thushan Wimalasena, Commander 572 Infantry Brigade, together with senior officers of the Brigade and under command battalions participated in the event.
Meanwhile, the troops of the 661 Infantry Brigade gave away their fullest support to the success of the Pooneryn St. Mary’s Church Christmas Carols event. Troops of the 661 Infantry Brigade together with 22 Vijayabahu Infantry regiment troops cleaned up the Church premises, erected temporary huts for devotees attending X'mas masses and offered refreshments to devotees.
Likewise, troops of the 571 Infantry Brigade offered a delicious lunch to 33 resident children at Good Shepherd Convent on Christmas day and donated school accessories to those 33 children. Brigadier Chaminda Gamlath, Commander 571 Brigade gave necessary guidance to the success of the event.
Brigadier Nalin Jayewardene, General Officer Commanding of the 66 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Bennet Thomas, a Canada-based philanthropist provided the sponsorship for the event.
In the meantime, 651 Infantry Brigade troops supported the coordination of the Christmas, Carol Choir at Holy Spirit Church in Nachchikuda, Kilinochchi on 22 December 2022.
Brigadier Wasantha Bandara, Commander 651 Infantry Brigade joined the spectacle of Carol singing as the Chief Guest. The event was filled with a lot of colourful features of children. The music support was given by 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry Music band of the Army.
In the meantime, the Christian Fellowship of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) staged a Christmas Carol evening under the guidance of Major General Nishantha Manage, Commander 1 Corps, Director General, General Staff and Colonel of the Regiment of VIR at “The Salute” Multifunction Hall, Boyagane on Friday (Dec 30) who took part as the Chief Guest.
VIR Ransara and Brass Band, Army Performing Arts Team, Members of VIR Christian Fellowship, VIR Seva Vanitha members and their children, invited choirs of St. Anne’s Church Miriswatte and Maris Stella College, Negombo who performed Carol singing in remembrance of the Prince of Peace before the audience.
Colonel of the Regiment of VIR and Mrs Kumudu Manage, Chairperson of VIR Seva Vanitha Branch with VIR Regiment Council members, members of VIR Christian Fellowship and Other Ranks enjoyed the event.
At the end, members in all choirs and children of VIR members received special gifts from the chief guest and a colourful display of firework brightened the evening afterwards.
In the meantime, 231 Infantry Brigade troops of the 23 Division of the SFHQ-East on account of Christmas distributed Christmas gift parcels among children, resident at St Francis Church orphanage in Karukkalmadam on 27 December 2022.
Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, 231 Infantry Brigade Commander with the coordination of the Commanding Officer of 11 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops spending their own resources for the charity project organized those gift packs, inclusive of essential school items and accessories.
Each pack distributed among 45 needy children of the aforesaid orphanage was worth Rs 2500/=. Brigadier Dilupa Bandara as the Chief Guest of the event with Lieutenant Colonel Dhammika Weerasinghe, Commanding Officer of the 11 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major Nimal Pathmasiri, Officers and Other Ranks and authorities at the location participated in the event.
In the meanwhile, 64 Infantry Division troops distributed 14 gift packs, each worth Rs 4500.00 for the civil employees serving under the HQ.
Those incentives, awarded on the Christmas day (Dec 25) consisted of stationeries and school accessories.
The philanthropist, Mr Gayan Wimalasooriya provided patronage for those gift packs through the coordination of Major General Nissanka Eriyagama, General Officer Commanding, 64 Infantry Division.
