Kilinochchi Troops Erect New Home for Ex-LTTE Woman Combatant

The compassionate thoughtfulness of the Army, extended towards a female ex-combatant of the LTTE with a daughter succeeded in erecting a new house to them in Selvanagar, Kilinochchi, thanks to the generosity of a retired military officer and his friends.

The housing project got underway under the guidance of Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu and was supervised by Major General Chandimal Peiris, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division. 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel S.S.A Narayanage using their technical expertise and much-dedicated manpower erected the house. The miserable living condition of the family prompted the Army to take the initiative in this regard.

The coordination of Brigadier Chaminda Gamlath, Commander, 571 Brigade enabled the receipt of the sponsorship for the project through US-based Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Retd) and his friends who donated a sum of Rs 1.7 million for erection of the new home for the ex-combatant, Mrs. S. Sarasvathi of Selvanagar.

A simple ceremony on Thursday (10), held in accordance with Hindu traditions saw the new house was warmed and formally vested in the beneficiary where Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and handed over the keys to the family after unveiling a symbolic plaque.

Major General Chandimal Peiris, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Brigade Commanders of the 571, 572, and 573 Infantry Brigades, Commanding Officer of 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, senior Officers and Other Ranks were present during the inauguration.
