The timely action and prompt chase made by an Army soldier who was returning from leave in the heart of Matara town on 14 October enabled the apprehension of a robber who had snatched the gold necklace of a government teacher while she was returning from the school.

Having sighted the man taken to his heels after robbing the gold necklace, worth about Rs 144,000/=, the soldier serving the Sri Lanka Army ran after him and caught the thief with the necklace in his possession.

The apprehended robber was handed over to the Matara Police Station for onward actions. The teacher in question commended the bravery of the soldier and thanked him.
