School Prefects in Matale Receive Army Leadership Guidance

Responding to a request, the Army School of Signals under the guidance and coordination of the Director Media and Army Spokesman at the Army Headquarters and Director Perspective Planning and Implementation Cell (PP&I Cell) of the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier Ravi Herath, a specially-designed 'Leadership' training project for school prefects was launched on Friday (28) covering 5 schools in Matale.
School Prefects at St Thomas' College, Vijaya College, Government's Science College, Christ Church College and Sri Sangamiththa Girls' National School in Matale were accordingly invited to the School of Signals in Boo Welikada for this full-day project which was coordinated, monitored and administered by the School of Signals and the Directorate of IT. Leadership qualities as history has repeatedly proved are an invaluable asset not only to the Army but also for outside society since leadership is closely entwined with high standards of discipline, self-development, morality, endurance, considerateness, motivation, behaviour and a variety of other auxiliary factors.
Accordingly, in line with the conceptualization and guidance of the Commander of the Army, the School of Signals formulated the project, meant to undertake such leadership training for island-wide School Prefects in order to provide a basic foundation, on which their pillars of professionalism could be nurtured.
Thus, the project kicked off under the theme of ‘Managing by Wandering Around (MBWA)', the Technology of Leadership training. The Commandant, School of Signals Colonel B.D Fernando made the welcome speech and commenced the programme as scheduled and the opening ceremony was graced by Colonel Sujeewa Rathnayaka, Commander 221 Brigade and the Principal Mr Dhammika Hewawasam of St Thomas’ College, Matale.
During the training programme, various topics under the junior leadership elements were taught, including exercises to improve their perfect decision-making abilities. This was introduced to expand their knowledge, skills, understanding of positive thinking, etc. In addition, the Principal of St. Thomas' College- Matale, Mr Dhammika Hewawasam, and other teachers who attended the program from other colleges complimented on the lectures, activities, and hospitality provided by the School of Signals to make the event a success.
