In parallel with Monday's Hindus' Festival of Lights, 'Deepavali', 51 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna as per guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, conducted a 'Shramadana', just 2 days prior to the Deepavali Day in 69 Kovils, situated in the Jaffna peninsula, and assisted priests to decorate those compounds with hundreds of multi-coloured bulbs.
Troops during the project, carried out with the blessings of the Jaffna Commander, removed garbage in Kovil compounds and cleaned Kovil premises by re-arranging their land and pathways with sand, and made the locations neat and tidy before devotees flocked to those 69 temples for offerings.
In addition, troops with Policemen provided security to thousands of devotees during 23-24 October 2022 and on the Deepavali day, white-clad Officers and soldiers also joined the offerings, 'Pooja' in respective Kovil temples. Adding festive glitter to the day, troops with Policemen supported the vehicle and the crowd management at those locations.
511, 512, 513 and 515 Brigades in the peninsula provided the much-needed workforce to conduct those supportive arrangements as a part of their civil-military coordination. Chief priests and temple trustees commended the Army cooperation and invoked blessings on the All Ranks during religious rites and rituals.
