To be in line with the forthcoming 73rd Army anniversary, 23 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 552 Brigade of the 55 Division under the Security Force HQ - Jaffna on Tuesday (4) held a blood donation campaign at 23 GW camp premises, Muhamalai.
More than 120 troops, including Officers and Other Ranks representing all under command Battalions of the 55 Division voluntarily made their contribution to this worthy cause on behalf of the patients in the Jaffna peninsula. It was organized under the Military Aid to Civil Community (MACC) concept of the Army in consultation with Jaffna hospital authorities.
The guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, and the close supervision of Brigadier Wijayanath Jayaweera, Commander, 552 Brigade enabled the project to be a huge success.
The event was arranged on a special request made by the Regional Blood Centre at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital to fulfill the need of blood for emergency surgeries as the hospital has run short of platelets and fresh plasma.
A medical team from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital together with assistants was supported by the medical staff at the Army’s Advanced Dressing Station in the 552 Brigade. 23 GW troops under the supervision of Major R.M.R.B Rathnayake, Commanding Officer, 23 GW coordinated the day’s programme.
