VIR Players Win Muaythai Tournament

The 3rd Inter Regiment Muaythai Tournament of the Army got underway at the Indoor Stadium (Gymnasium) of the Army Cantonment in Panagoda on 4 September 2022.
It was competed by more than 100 athletes representing respective regiments under the supervision of Brigadier Sanka Jayamaha, Chairman of the Army Muaythai Committee and a member of the National Muaythai Selection Committee, who is also the Commandant at Marksmanship and Sniper Training School in Diyatalawa.
During the competition, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Muaythai players emerged the winner after achieving 11 goals and the second place of the competition was grabbed by the Gajaba Regiment by achieving 7 goals in the same round. In addition, the enthusiastic players of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps achieved 6 gold medals and 2 silver medals. The players who represented the Sri Lanka Signal Corps became the runners up by scoring 3 gold and 1 silver medals.
Brigadier Sanka Jayamaha as the chief guest of the event witnessed the tournament. The panel of jury was headed by Colonel Priyanka Perera, National Muaythai Coach and also a Referee panel which consist of 3 civil referees and 9 Army referees.
Trophies and certificates were also presented to the winners at the conclusion of the final event.
