The Gajaba Regiment (GR) Regimental Centre at Saliyapura on the guidelines given by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Colonel of the Regiment, GR, Sri Lanka National Guard and Commander of the Army hosted a felicitation to the newly-promoted Major General Shantha Ranaweera on Friday (16) in conformity with military traditions when he arrived there after his promotion.

The new two-star General was warm-heartedly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda on his arrival at the Regimental Headquarters and greeted to a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Thereafter, he paid tribute to the founding father of the Gajaba Regiment, late Major General Vijaya Wimalarathne by placing a floral wreath at his statue.

Later on, a Guard of Honour at the parade ground as the climax of the day's programme presented arms and honoured him in a formal tradition after he reviewed the parade.

An All Rank tea afterwards was held at the Other Ranks’ Mess where he addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to Colonel of the Regiment and All Ranks of the Regimental Headquarters for arranging such an attractive felicitation on his promotion to the rank of Major General.

Members of the GR's Regimental Council, Centre Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Senior Officers, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks were present during the event.
