VIR Regimental HQ Compound Contributes its Share to Green Agriculture

Giving a push to the Army's green agriculture and food security project, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Regimental HQ at Boyagane, Kurunegala also began cultivating short-term and seasonal crops and grain varieties in their compound under the guidance of Major General Nishantha Manage, Colonel of the Regiment VIR and Director General General Staff.
The cultivation, comprised of pumpkin, drum sticks, dambala, radish, lime, maize, ginger, etc covers 20 acres in extent and more than 50 troops are engaged in the project. Those crops in the compound are to be added to the diet of VIR soldiers as fresh rations and the excess will be provided to the troops at reasonable price, to be taken to their families.
The inaugural cultivation started on Monday (27) with the participation of the Deputy Centre Commandant, VIR and several Officers.
