Retiring SLAVF Dy Comdt Honoured at SLAVF HQ

Having accomplished a remarkable service in the military career spanning over 33 years, Major General Shean Gunawardhane relinquished his duties as the Deputy Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) in a customary ceremony on Thursday (23) on the eve of his retirement from the service.
A series of formalities were performed in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment of Deputy Commandant of the SLAVF. The day’s guest was received by Brigadier Susantha Jayamanne, Brigadier Administration at the SLAVF before a Guard Turn Out was reviewed on his arrival at the camp premises.
Brigadier Thusitha Silva, Inspector of Training of the SLAVF after a while received the outgoing Deputy Commandant and ushered him to the saluting dais to receive the honours accorded by the troops of Sri Lanka Signal Corps amidst melodies of patriotic music in the air.
Marking an indelible chapter in the proud history of the Volunteer Force, the senior officer unveiled his portrait in retrospect of his tenure as the 31st Deputy Commandant before he sat for a group photograph with the staff at the Headquarters.
Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force also paid a courtesy visit to meet the outgoing Deputy Commandant and extended his gratitude and compliments for his retirement.
Addressing the troops, the outgoing Deputy Commandant extended his thanks to all the members of the Volunteer Force who integrated with him in realizing organizational objectives during his office. Later on, the outgoing senior officer was entertained to tea by All Ranks.
The senior officer after a while departed from the Headquarters amidst good-bye cheers of the Officers and Other Ranks who street lined on both sides of the road leading to the main gate.
