Much-Needed New Gun Yard at SLA Inaugurated

The Inauguration of the new Gun Yard which awards due significance and provides sufficient protection to the 152mm gun howitzers at the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) 10 Medium Regiment at Jaffna took place on Wednesday (4) where the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery and Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda graced as the Chief Guest.

The long standing need of the 10th Medium Regiment for such a proper Gun Yard was accordingly fulfilled by the Colonel Commandant and the Commander Artillery Brigade after both of them jointly worked on it with technical expertise of skilled soldiers of 10 SLA who showed the fullest commitment and dedication for the cause.

The construction project of this Gun Yard was launched on 01 October 2020 at a cost of about 12 million since those guns remained exposed to adverse weather conditions.

During the inauguration, certificate of commendation were awarded to all men who did the construction. During the Chief Guest's stay, he paid a courtesy visit to the Mudungoda Temple, too. The inaugural event was organized by strictly adhering to all precautionary measures to prevent COVID 19 pandemic.

Centre Commandant, Commander Artillery Brigade, Commandant School of Artillery, Commanding Officers of 10 and 14 SLA, Senior officers, officers and 10 SLA soldiers attended the simple ceremony.
