Development of Sports Schools Underway

Sri Lanka Engineer (SLE) troops continuing their Presidential assignments as per directions of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva have successfully completed the construction of a school playgrounds, physical exercise centres and pavilions, etc after such projects were entrusted to them a few months ago.

As at present, engineer troops have completed the entire renovation of the school playground, its perimeter constructions and the turf in full at Anuradhapura Central College and formally handed it over to school authorities on Tuesday (3).

Similarly, playgrounds of 3 more such schools, famed for sports are being renovated by the 12 (V) Corps of Engineer Services (CES) including facilities for sanitary needs. 7 more schools under this project are to receive development and renovation, considering skills for sports for the last couple of years.

State Ministry of Rural and School Sport Infrastructure Improvement has agreed to provide necessary funds for the renovations at the request of the Presidential Secretariat.

The estimated cost stands at Rs 2.9 m for plant work and Rs 6 m for construction work.

Under the guidance of Major General Nihal Amarasekara, Chief Field Engineer, Major General Chandana Wijesundara, General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division directs and supervises his troops, engaged in these constructions.
