The final segment of the 29th Death Anniversaries commemorative ceremonies of Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne, the founding father of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) and other War Heroes including Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and Colonel Y.M Palipana of the GR took place at the sacred Ruwanweliseya at Anuradhapura on Sunday (8) evening.

A series of events organized as per the guidelines given by Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Special Forces Regiment, General Shavendra Silva on account of 29th death anniversary of late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne and other military veterans including Colonel Y.M Palipana began from Jaffna and culminated with the offer of ‘Ashtapana’ Pooja at most sacred Ruwanwelisaya.

The Centre Commandant of the Gajaba Regiment Brigadier Dinesh Udugama and a few Staff Officers along with some members of the Regimental Staff attended the ceremony. The day had wreath-laying ceremony, offer of alms to Maha Sangha, etc to mark the death anniversary.
