Sri Lanka Army Engineer troops responding swiftly to a directive given by the His Excellency, the President during his 6th ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak’ programme at Medirigiriya in January 2021, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army instructed the Army Chief Field Engineer and the Colonel Commandant of the SLE, Major General Nihal Amarasekara, General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division Major General Chandana Wijayasundera to undertake the renovation of the playground, construction of the library building, a pavilion and the drainage system of the Hingurakgoda Rajarata Vidyalaya as requested by school students, teachers and parents.

7 Field Engineer Regiment and 12 (V) Corps of Engineer Services Regiment troops are currently engaged in the project and expect to complete it in a few weeks. General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division has visited the location in order to assess the progress of the project.
