66 Division Takes to Cultivation of Coconut Saplings

In line with the “Thuru Mithuru - Nawaratak” cultivation and beautification project, initiated by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the 66 Division Headquarters under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi planted 100 coconut saplings inside the Division Headquarters’ compound on a suggestion made by Major General Ajith Dissanayake, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division in Pooneryn on Monday (5).

On the same day, with a view to strengthening the resilience and growth potential of under privileged families of the area, a programme was launched to distribute coconut saplings among families in the area who are interested in cultivating coconuts inside their house compounds on a suggestion, made by Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi.

Afterwards, all under command formations in the 66 Division on the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding also aligned with the Division Headquarters and cultivated these constituent crops inside their formations. Coconut Development Board in Palai provided saplings and expert technical advice in relation to the growth of those saplings.
