Army troops alert to illegal sand mining in large scale damaging the environment in the Eastern region on Saturday (3) succeeded in taking one more group of sand-miners into custody with Policemen.

Accordingly, Army troops of 4 Special Forces (SF) in the 22 Division in collaboration with the Drone team of the 15 Sri Lanka Artillery after swooping the location arrested 18 civilians with 3 dump trucks and 4 dinghies while they were engaged in illegal sand-mining in the general river area of Sittaru in Trincomalee.

With their equipment, all suspects and their equipment were handed over to the Police.
