General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army during his visit to residential quarters’ complex at Panagoda arrived at the Army Cantonment in Panagoda this morning (9) and laid the foundation-stone for erection of the new fuel filling pump in the Cantonment premises.

At the main entrance to the Army Cantonment, a drive-past Guard Turnout greeted the day’s Chief Guest before he reached the Batalawatta premises in the compound where the new fuel pump were to come up.

After brief religious observances, the day’s Chief Guest, amidst ‘Pirith’ chanting laid the corner-stone for construction of the new fuel station upon unveiling of a plaque to the same effect. A briefing, delivered by a senior officer in the 1 Corps of Engineer Service Regiment, afterwards presented an outline of the whole project to the Commander of the Army. The simple ceremony came to end after the Commander, SF-West, Major General Wasantha Abrew awarded an appreciative memento to the visiting Commander of the Army.

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Quarter Master General, Brigadier Kanishka Heiyanthuduwa, Director Welfare, Brigadier Shantha Kumara, Director Engineer Services, several Senior Officers and Other Ranks were present at the occasion. |
