Unattended Land Turned into a Paddy Field at Panaluwa Army Camp

Giving one more boost to the Army Commander's initiative, ' Thuru Mithuru-Nawa Ratak' re-forestation and cultivation project, troops on Tuesday (12) sowed seed paddy in one more 4-acre plot of land inside the Army camp and the farm at Panaluwa, Thunthana after preparation of the entire patch by ploughing.

The project launched under the guidance of Major General Jayantha Senevirathne, Commander, Security Forces-West saw the process of sowing seed paddy took place at the auspicious minute in keeping with traditional agricultural practices giving pride of place to religious observances by the side of the 'Kamatha' (threshing floor).

The paddy-sowing ceremony was witnessed by Major General Jayantha Senevirathne, Commander Security Forces - West, Major General H.M.T.B Hangilipola, General Officer Commanding 14 Division, Brigadier General Staff SF-West, Brigadier Administration and Quartering SF-West, 412 Brigade Commander, Officers and Other Ranks of the 1 Sri Lanka General Service Corps and the Panaluw Army farm who have undertaken the responsibility for cultivation. |
