The newly-promoted Major General Deshapriya Gunawardena of Gemunu Watch (GW) was greeted and honoured at GW Regimental Headquarters on Friday (28) upon his elevation to the new two-star rank.

In conformity with military traditions, Major General Deshapriya Gunawardena was saluted in the Guard Turnout presented at the entrance upon his arrival there soon after the GW Centre Commandant welcomed him. Afterwards, he was ushered to the parade ground to take the salute in the Guard of Honour parade, hosted in his honour. Together with the parade commander, he reviewed it and took the salute from the special dais.

Members of the Regimental Council including the Colonel of the Regiment, GW, Major General T.S Bansajaya, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and his close family members were present during the felicitation ceremony.

Major General Deshapriya Gunawardena is currently serving as the Director Infantry at the Army Headquarters. |
