Army Officer Invited to Judge Humanitarian Law Moot Competition

Lieutenant Colonel Nalin Herath, General Staff officer 1, Coordination 14 Division had the rare privilege of attending the as a judge in the recent 9th International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition-2019 following a special request, made by the ICRC from the Commander of the Army.
The ICRC Sri Lanka has been partnering with the the Faculty of Law at the University of Colombo-organized this Henry Dunant memorial moot court competition - 2019, where students argue to prosecute or defend a fictional war criminal, charged before the International Criminal Court.
Law students from a number of public and private universities, such as the University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya, KDU, University of Jaffna, APITT and SLIIT also participated in this competition this time.
Semi-final rounds were held on 22 October at the Faculty of Graduate Studies and it was the first time a military officer has been invited to judge this completion in Sri Lanka. |
