New VIR Colonel of the Regiment Assumes Duties

Major General R.K.B.S Ketakumbura assumed office as the 18th Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on Tuesday (24) during a colourful ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters in Boyagane, Kurunegala.

On arrival, the new Colonel of the Regiment was received by the VIR Centre Commandant and was greeted to a Guard Turnout and subsequently was saluted in a Guard of Honour.

It followed a wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to fallen VIR War Heroes and the special monument erected for VIR Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV) recipients. Afterwards, amidst religious observances Major General Rohana Ketakumbura placed his signature in a formal document, symbolizing the assumption of duties.

After ceremonial formalities, the new Colonel of the Regiment took part in sapling planting as a symbol of memory. Afterwards, he attended refreshment with all ranks and addressed the troops at Archers’ Cinema.
