SLLI Veterans Build Holiday Home in Kataragama for Infantrymen

A new holiday resort, 'Home of Infantry' (Paabala Niwahana), built at Kataragama for Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) veterans and serving members was ceremonially opened by the Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Ruwan Kulathunga on the invitation of the 7 year-old SLLI Infantry Society on Thursday (17).

The resort at Gothamigama in close proximity to Kirivehera precincts will facilitate retired, serving Officers and Other Ranks of the SLLI who visit Kataragama. Major General P.G.R.D Silva (Retd) initiated the project in 2016 for completion under 3 stages. The 1st stage at a cost of Rs 13 million worth was thus completed and opened on Thursday (17).

The funds for the project was generated through Army Headquarters-approved projects, initiated by the former Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Amal Karunasekara (Retd), together with the incumbent Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI.

Major General S.M.A Jayawardene (Retd), Major General N. Mallawaarachchi (Retd), Brigadier S.K.G.N.B Ehelamalpe (Retd), Brigadier G.K Wickramasingha and a large group of SLLI Infantry members were present. |
