As another move to promote reconciliation and religious harmony, a “Paththini Pooja” (Kannaki Amman) was organized jointly by the troops and Hindu devotees in the area of Omanthai during 10 -16 July, following an initiative of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 61 Division, Brigadier Jayampathi Thilakaratne.

This special event was patronized by a large crowd of Hindu devotees. Most Hindus venerate this goddess as the symbol of chastity.

District Secretary Vavuniya - Mr. I. M Hanifa, Commander Security Forces – Wanni Major General Kumudu Perera and the GOC 61 Division attended as distinguished guests for the occasion. |
