Sri Lanka Army Hockey ‘A’ team secured championship in the all island 6 side hockey tournament conducted at Rajarata University ground by the Rajarata University on Saturday (26).

Over 10 teams competed under ‘A’ Division including tri service and Police.

In the semifinals, the Army ‘A’ team had a victory over its rivals, Air Force ‘A’ team with 2-1 goals. Army ‘B’ team beat Air force ‘B’ team (scores 3-0). However, as the finals progress the Army ‘A’ team beat Army ‘B’ team scoring 4-1.

Lance Corporal R.M.A Suresh from Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) was awarded the trophy for the Best Player in the tournament while the Best Defender award went to Lance Corporal U.G.C Keerthi of the SLASC.

Major General Shavendra Silva, Chairman, Army Hockey Committee and the Chairman, Defence Services Hockey Committee was behind the planning and training of those tri-service members.
