Adding one more feature to the art of shooting, initiatives were taken by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) to revive pistol firing abilities among Officers serving under all formations of the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) during the tournament that got under way for four-days (18-21 January) in Myladi area.

The ‘Pistol Firing Competition – 2018’, tournament segmented in to five categories to suit Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier and Major General ranks took place after absence of many years due to efforts of the SFHQ-J.

The tournament was competed by more than 125 Officers representing all formations in the SFHQ-Jaffna.

Following are the achievers under different categories;

Major General Rank - Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi

Brigadier Rank - Brigadier Jayantha Gunarathna

Colonel Rank - Colonel Mahendra Fernando

Lieutenant Colonel Rank - Lieutenant Colonel Nalin Prabath

Major Rank - Major Geeth Munagamage

The overall winners of the competition were Major Y.M.D.J.G Munagamage VIR - First place, Major D.M.S.C Dasanayake SLSR - Second place, Colonel S.W.M Fernando - Third place, Major S.K Gamage SLNG - Fourth place and Major M.P.C.M Gunasena CES - Fifth place.

Commander, SF-J, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Jaffna DIG. Mr. K Palitha Fernando, General Officer Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Air Commodore W.M.S.C Wijesooriya, Wing Commander D Jayaweera, A.S.P Mr. H.U Piyananda and several Officers in the Jaffna area attended the price awarding ceremony and gave away trophies to the winners.
