UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Meets Jaffna Commander

United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye and two other delegates during a visit to the North called at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J) and met Major General Mahesh Senanayaka, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) on Wednesday (12).
During the cordial meeting that ensued, SF-J Commander outlined the humanitarian projects vis-à-vis security arrangements in the peninsula with focus on drug smuggling, human trafficking, involvement of troops in nation-building, reconciliatory moves, etc. The discussion also centred on how the Security Forces were helping to uplift livelihood of Jaffna people by way of assisting them for self-help projects.
The cordial meeting culminated after the Commander SF-J presented mementoes to the delegation as gestures of goodwill.
UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Ms Rita Izsak-Ndiaye left her signature in the SFHQ-J Visitors’ Book before they took leave of the Commander.
