Army Chief Supports Housing Initiatives for Soldiers

The awarding of cash incentives to soldiers for the construction of new houses and the completion of partially-built houses took place on 23 July 2024 at Army Headquarters. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Under the 9th phase of the Army Commander’s Ranaviru Housing Fund, managed by the Directorate of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, the Commander of the Army approved the disbursement of funds for 15 new houses and the completion of 105 partially-built houses. Each beneficiary receiving funds to construct a new house will be allocated Rs 1.5 million, while soldiers whose houses are partially-built will receive Rs 750,000 under this scheme.

Major General C.S. Munasinghe WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc IG, Adjutant General and Brigadier W.A.S.R. Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc, Director of the Directorate of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation welcomed the Chief Guest upon his arrival at the premises.

Following an introductory briefing on the Ranaviru Housing Fund by the Director of the Directorate of Veterans Affairs, the Commander of the Army, along with Major General S.R.B. Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Chief of Staff, symbolically distributed cash cheques among 40 beneficiaries.

Established in 2015 under the Directorate of Veterans Affairs, the Ranaviru Housing Fund aims to fulfill the dream of soldiers, including those injured and still serving, retired personnel, and the families of fallen War Heroes, to own a house. Since its inception, the fund has facilitated the construction of 309 new houses and the completion of 223 partially-built houses.

Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff, along with Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, beneficiaries and next of kin of soldiers participated in the event.
