High Commissioner of Bangladesh Pays Courtesy Call on the Army Chief

The newly-appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, HE Tareq Mohammed Ariful Islam paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva on Thursdays (8) afternoon at the Army Headquarters.

The visiting diplomat’s cordial discussions with General Shavendra Silva that ensued refreshed friendly and long standing relations that exist between both nations and the bilateral understanding and cooperation that covers training opportunities, exchange programmes for tri service personnel, etc.

General Shavendra Silva during the meet explained the visiting diplomat on the status quo in relation to control of COVID-19 in the country in his capacity as the Head NOCPCO. The Army Chief also extended warm greetings on his new appointment as the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka and assured best cooperation and friendly relations between Sri Lankan Armed Forces and Bangladesh’s counterparts.

The cordial talks culminated with exchange of mementos. Commodore Md. Shafiul Bari, Defence Adviser at the High Commission of Bangladesh was also associated with the day’s courtesy meeting.

On his arrival, the High Commissioner was received by Major General Ajith Kolombathanthri, Military Secretary at the Army Headquarters at the entrance to the Army Headquarters.
