Army Chief Graces Tree Planting Programme on World Environment Day 2026

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, a special tree planting programme was held on 05 June 2026 at the Army Agricultural Project in Battaramulla under the theme “Rooted in Responsibility – Growing for Generations.” The initiative aimed at promoting environmental conservation and creating a lasting legacy for future generations through meaningful action.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Symbolizing the project's launch, a ‘Mee’ sapling was planted on the premises by the Commander of the Army.

Further strengthening this environmental initiative, Alliance Finance PLC donated 5,000 mango saplings and 5,000 coconut saplings. During the event, 25 saplings were symbolically handed over to representatives of Regiments serving under Security Forces Headquarters (West).

In addition, troops of the Sri Lanka Army planted 100 ‘Mee’ saplings during the programme, contributing to ongoing efforts to enhance green cover and promote sustainable environmental practices.

Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Senior Officers, Officers, representatives of Alliance Finance PLC and Other Ranks participated in the programme.
